The new trailer for American Boogeyman, the upcoming thriller that stars Chad Michael Murray (One Tree Hill), Dacre Montgomery (Power Rangers), and is directed by Jeff Wadlow (Kick Ass 2), is out and it’s a doozy. Between the “devil’s music” that plays throughout the trailer and the fact that Chad Michael Murray actually dresses as Satan, this film is sure to live up to its name.
Chad Michael Murray of One Tree Hill and Riverdale is shown stalking and murdering as notorious serial murderer Ted Bundy in the first trailer for Ted Bundy: American Boogeyman. Murray, who delivers his lines with a gravelly voice and a continuously changing hair and moustache style, is obviously attempting to distance himself from the soft-edged heartthrob image and instead resemble the monster who was previously called The Campus Killer as much as possible.
In Ted Bundy: American Boogeyman, a specter roams the highways of a gritty and decadent 1970s America, detailing both the killings and the chase to capture him. Ted Bundy (Chad Michael Murray) is his next victim, and the intrepid female detective Kathleen McChesney (Holland Roden) of the Seattle Police Department and rookie FBI profiler Robert Ressler (Jake Hays), the federal agent who popularized the term “serial killer,” are on the hunt for him. This is the real tale of the manhunt that led to the capture of America’s most feared boogeyman.

Daniel Farrands (House Of Wax, The Haunting In Connecticut 2: Ghosts Of Georgia, and Riverdale) wrote and directed the film, which stars Chad Michael Murray (House Of Wax, The Haunting In Connecticut 2: Ghosts Of Georgia, and Riverdale) as Bundy. Lin Shaye (Insidious franchise, The Grudge, Penny Dreadful: City Of Angels) and Holland Roden (Insidious franchise, The Grudge, Penny Dreadful: City Of Angels) round out the core cast (Escape Room 2, Teen Wolf). Lucas Jarach (The Haunting Of Sharon Tate, The Amityville Murders), Daniel Davila (Dead Mine, Knife Fight), and Farrands are producing American Boogeyman, with executive producers Alan Pao (The November Man) and Luke Daniels (Under The Silver Lake, No Man’s Land).
Chad Michael Murray, like Zac Efron, who played Ted Bundy in 2019’s Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil, and Vile, may seem to be an unexpected choice to play the serial murderer, but the studio had faith in him from the start. “Ted Bundy is a fascinatingly controversial figure who is the ultimate embodiment of evil,” said Jonathan Deckter, president and COO of Voltage Pictures. “Bundy’s charm and seductive personality, qualities that the infamous murderer used to gain the confidence of his victims and society, are brilliantly captured by Murray. It’s a dream come true to continue working on this movie with Lucas and Dan, who are both very talented, and to bring compelling stories to the screen.”
Ted Bundy has been the subject of numerous films and documentaries, each of which provides insight into his horrific acts and how he was ultimately brought to prison. In fact, Ted Bundy: American Boogeyman isn’t the only Bundy-related film in the works right now, with Lord of the Rings star Elijah Wood set to star in No Man of God, which tells the story of Bundy’s relationship with FBI agent Bill Hagmaier (Wood), with the latter interviewing him multiple times over a number of years about his crimes.
Ted Bundy: American Boogeyman will be shown on Fathom (over 750 screens nationwide) on August 16, 2024, with a US VOD and DVD release on September 3, 2024.
